Beginners
Children & Adults

Short Answer: two LV1 classes a week is perfect.
It is also possible to progress on one class per week but not recommended due to lack the lack of physical practice this causes.

Long answer & Explanation:

As a beginner you’re best option to pick is to train in two LV1 or equivalent classes per week. at this level developing coordination and proficiency in the basics is the most important step and therefore the LV1 classes will suit best. (it should be noted that for adult learners the classes marked as adult are suitable for beginners as well as advanced grades.

intermediate & above
Children & Adults

Short Answer: Twice per week with at least one of the classes being a LV2 class.

Training only one day a week at this level progression is possible but will almost certainly be considerably slower than the average student taking in two days a week of practice compared to one.

Long Answer & Explanation:

The average student should have intermediate level ability around yellow – green belt (7th-6th Kyu) although some develop faster than others especially with high training frequencies

At this stage members should prioritise LV2 classes to push their ability level higher. LV1 classes will still yield benefit but not nearly as much as with LV2. Furthermore at this level members should have just enough ability to start attending the specialised classes for either kata kumite or both.

The recommendation is to attend two or more LV2 classes a week or a combination of a LV2 class and a kata or kumite specialization class

This level of training should be an adequate minimum for intermediate and above students to continue to progress at a stable rate

Competitive/Advanced.

Short answer: as often as possible bare minimum to see improvements twice per week spread out over a multiple training days.

Explanation & long answer

At the advanced level (for the average person this equates to brown belt and above) its incredible important to maintain high training frequency in order for your body and mind to maintain and continue to build up your ability. the advanced level student is usually building towards a Dan (Black belt) grading or competing in competitions. where these are the goals its essential to keep regular training over at least two days a week in order to build to a level of proficiency that makes your karate effective.
